When you are in Paris, it is almost impossible not to run into the Arc de Triomphe sooner or later. This is because many roads in the centre of Paris lead to the Arc de Triomphe. Napoleon commissioned the triumphal arch as a tribute to the Battle of Austerlitz. This stunning landmark is inspired by neoclassicism. Although eclectic, it is still simple and symmetrical.
Because the arch is built in the middle of a super busy roundabout, you have to go through a tunnel to get to the entrance. Here you will discover the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It symbolizes a tribute to the fallen soldiers of WWI. But there are also names of important French generals and others who fought for France during the last centuries. Once inside it is also possible to buy a ticket to climb the roof of the arch. This is a hefty walk of a hundred and sixty-four feet and two hundred and eighty-four steps. Phenomenal Mont Saint-Michel Rising From The Sea
Mont Saint-Michel is also a famous landmark in France as this rocky island truly is a natural wonder. Located in Normandy, on the border of Normandy and Brittany, Mont Saint-Michel is a picturesque medieval town with only fifty inhabitants. Here you will find real architecture from the Middle Ages including typical French half-timbered houses. But what makes Mont Saint-Michel really special is its construction on a rock that desiccates during low tide. When the tide comes in, the seawater rises an impressive forty-two feet ( twelve meters).
Though this is not the highest tidal range in the world it still is incredible. At ebb, the sand and shellfish teem over the dried-up rocky beaches. Due to this, the mussels grow yards high in the trees around Mont Saint-Michel.
So how do you travel here? The most convenient is renting a car. By train LGV to St Malo, via the LGV Atlantique, the last part is high speed but on an adapted rail route. The place Rennes also has an airport, so you can travel by air. From here it is an hour by public transport to St Malo.

Or take a bottle of wine with you when you hike along the aqueduct and see the imposing old structure as you walk under the bridge. The ultimate experience is from a canoe you rent from a local owner.
How to reach? Travel to Marseille by plane. From here it is about sixty-two miles to the northwest, most easily reached by rental car. It is also possible by public transport. Take the train to Nimes or Avignon with the LGV. From Nimes, you can take the bus to Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
