Each offers unique perspectives on the significant events of the Second World War.

If you want to respect the fallen soldiers visit the Memorial de Caen. Which is both a museum and a war memorial. However, you may not be able to explore them all. But there is always a good reason to come back and visit Normandy. And if you have some time left after a museum visit, take a walk on the beaches where the brave allied troops fought for our freedom.

Gastronomy of Normandy

Normandy has well-known gastronomic specialities such as Camembert cheese, cured lamb, oysters and other seafood, as well as fish cuisine.

Although Normandy wines are good in themselves, apple cider in particular is a famous local alcoholic drink. A variant of this is a forty per cent liqueur called Calvados from the department of the same name with apple cider as a base.

Nature in Normandy

Fortunately, nature appears to be stunning in Normandy. If you travel there during spring especially. A hike through Normandy nature is one of these awesome things to do in France. Here you will find hills and steep chalk cliffs rising from the sea. Very well-known are the three natural chalk cliff arches near Etretat. The tide has eroded these arches with seawater for thousands of years. For a good view, it is recommended to take a boat trip along these unique rock arches.

Normandy is also home to the iconic Mont Saint Michel. You can see an abbey rising on a large rock in the middle of the surf of the sea. Walk there at low tide or visit the village on this rock, but it is especially idyllic to see from the coast.
