Nature’s Grandeur at Your Fingertips
The renowned Nobel laureate Frédéric Mistral once proclaimed, “He who has seen Paris and not Cassis has seen nothing.” Indeed, the sheer beauty of Cassis’ calanques, natural inlets surrounded by towering cliffs, validates this sentiment. Fortunately, Frédéric Mistral gives travellers a splendid reason to walk around the village this way. Therefore, follow the path to the end of Avenue des Calanques, near Port-Miou. Here you’ll encounter a rewarding journey to other calanques. Discover Port Pin and En-Vau, via a moderately challenging hike. This is doable as the distance is 1.5 miles to these amazing calanques. Even if you prefer a more relaxed experience, the stunning view of the cliffs and the turquoise waters is worth a walk. But, for those who seek an easier option or want to explore from the sea, regular boat tours embark from the harbour. The boat tour unveils different perspectives of the ‘calanque’ splendour.
Culinary Delights and Hidden Gems
Cassis’ fame stems from its winsome port. Because, here the freshest catches of fish arrive at your doorstep. However, beyond the port’s appeal lies a network of lovely inner streets that reveal local gems. Moreover, one such treasure is the restaurant Le Bonaparte. This is located at 14 rue du Général Bonaparte. It is owned and operated by Jean-Marie and his family. This is the place where you can relish fish dishes at reasonable prices ( 16-25 euros). At the same time soaking in the authentic French ambience. Not a fan of seafood? In similar fashion, the talented chef is more than happy to craft a delectable vegetarian option upon request.
