Summer Evenings in Cassis: A Market of Art and Treasures

The heart of Cassis beats rhythmically at its graceful port. At the same time, it is a vibrant hub that invites you to settle onto one of its numerous terraces. Here, you can savour locally produced wines. And meanwhile, you watch the ebb and flow of people against the backdrop of idyllic moored boats. Of course, you can wander around the cozy Place de Baragnon. Here quaint boutiques entice with their wares. Twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, the town’s energy crescendos with the bustling market. Instantly, an array of colours and scents infuse the air. Besides, in the summer evenings, the market transforms with stalls that offer homemade art and other treasures.

Calanque Cassis Near Marseille

Nature’s Grandeur at Your Fingertips

The renowned Nobel laureate Frédéric Mistral once proclaimed, “He who has seen Paris and not Cassis has seen nothing.” Indeed, the sheer beauty of Cassis’ calanques, natural inlets surrounded by towering cliffs, validates this sentiment. Fortunately, Frédéric Mistral gives travellers a splendid reason to walk around the village this way. Therefore, follow the path to the end of Avenue des Calanques, near Port-Miou. Here you’ll encounter a rewarding journey to other calanques. Discover Port Pin and En-Vau, via a moderately challenging hike. This is doable as the distance is 1.5 miles to these amazing calanques. Even if you prefer a more relaxed experience, the stunning view of the cliffs and the turquoise waters is worth a walk. But, for those who seek an easier option or want to explore from the sea, regular boat tours embark from the harbour. The boat tour unveils different perspectives of the ‘calanque’ splendour.

Culinary Delights and Hidden Gems

Cassis’ fame stems from its winsome port. Because, here the freshest catches of fish arrive at your doorstep. However, beyond the port’s appeal lies a network of lovely inner streets that reveal local gems. Moreover, one such treasure is the restaurant Le Bonaparte. This is located at 14 rue du Général Bonaparte. It is owned and operated by Jean-Marie and his family. This is the place where you can relish fish dishes at reasonable prices ( 16-25 euros). At the same time soaking in the authentic French ambience. Not a fan of seafood? In similar fashion, the talented chef is more than happy to craft a delectable vegetarian option upon request.

Coastal Charms: Beaches in Cassis France

As if the captivating streets and awe-inspiring cliffs weren’t enough, the beaches in Cassis France also boast a unique ambience for tourists. Actually, the expansive Plage de la Grande Mer stands as a favourite. This is also due to its central location and easy accessibility. Beginning at the delightful tourist office, a stroll along the Promenade Aristide Briand unveils a statue dedicated to the fisherman Calendal. He is a character from one of Mistral’s poems, as well as the Cassis lighthouse. To illustrate, this vantage point treats you to a magnificent coastal panorama. But, if you’re in search of a cozier shoreline, go to the Plage de Bestouan. It is accessible via an amber-coloured flight of stairs and offers its own attractiveness this way.
